This activity is part of the 24 hours of science at McGill event. Join our Science Outreach groups for a day of free activities for youth and families! For more information on our full program visit this link.
Join McGill Science Outreach to explore nature and learn about how trees grow from tiny seeds to adults aged hundreds, even thousands of years old. We’ll explore some of the magnificent trees and wildlife that rely on them, around campus with fun activities.
Join Science Outreach, the Chemistry Outreach Group, the Physics Outreach Group, the Trottier Space Institute, Gault Nature Reserve, STEMM Diversity at McGill and Earth and Planetary Sciences for fun science activities for youth and families during 24 hours of science!
All activities will occur at our downtown campus except a Living Laboratory to Discover (at Gault Nature Reserve). View the full program flyer here.
Are you interested in the mysteries of our planet and beyond? McGill Physics Outreach, TSI Outreach, and SMoRES (McGill Earth & Planetary Sciences Outreach) are joining forces to host “From Planets to Particles: An Exploration Mini-Fair”. Join us on Sat., May 4 between 10 pm to 4 pm in the Rutherford Physics Building on the McGill campus for hands-on activities and demos about everything from gravity, life on other planets, building telescopes, coding, and craters to volcanoes, identifying earth and space rocks, and minerals!
Panel Overview: Instructors design and implement the teaching that students experience. This panel will focus on how Generative AI is forcing us to rethink what and how we teach and conduct assessments. Instructors and students from different disciplines will share reflections on their experiences and discuss future directions for teaching in the age of Generative AI.
Questions explored:
DATE: May 13th & 14th 2024
LOCATION : Arts Building, room 150, McGill University, 853 Sherbrooke West
Note: On May 13th AM, there will be an Upskill Workshop at Google HQ. Further details will be sent to participants.
Panel Overview: Students learn in formal and informal settings and ways. Generative AI will challenge our assumptions about the way learning happens and what it means to have learned something. This panel will explore the experiences of instructors and students from different disciplines and look to future directions for learning in the age of generative AI.
Questions explored:
The Generative AI Landscape: Understanding the different types of generative AI models (e.g., text, image, audio) and their capabilities.
Overview: While beliefs regarding the impact of AI on education – both realized and potential – are readily available, what we actually know and understand about such impacts is still quite limited. This panel will illustrate some of the routes that researchers are taking towards building a better collective understanding necessary for the responsible use of AI in education.
