Singers in Schulich School of Music degree and performance diploma programs work with world-class vocal pedagogues, repertoire coaches, linguists, theorists, musicologists and experts in related fields to uncover their strengths, develop their artistry and hone their craft — always with an eye toward building careers in professional singing. Our students focus on concert repertoire, early music, opera, oratorio and/or recital performance and receive comprehensive training in musicianship, vocal technical proficiency, musical and dramatic expressiveness, and idiomatic lyric diction.
Our teachers work together to create a positive and nurturing atmosphere in which undergraduates and graduates not only reach their academic goals, but gain personal confidence and develop professional integrity. McGill singers consistently receive major study or career development grants, participate in young artist training programs, and win highly prestigious national and international competitions.
In addition to recitals and master classes, we encourage students to take advantage of diverse solo performance opportunities by participating in Opera, Early Music Ensembles, Song Interpretation, a comprehensive Choral Program, the annual McGill Concerto and Wirth Vocal Competitions, and outside venues in Montreal.
