Biography:

Juno-award winning vocalist, Sienna Dahlen has toured her music extensively across Canada, Europe, and parts of the US in addition to having given numerous performances in Mexico and South America.

She has released six albums of original jazz and folk music as a leader and has collaborated on several national and international projects as a co-leader/lyricist with musicians such as Joel Miller and his Dream Cassette band (Canada), Mads Baerentzen’s Lifelines project (Denmark), Lebanese pianist and composer, Wassim Soubra's Dunes album (France) and Paris-based Canadian drummer, Karl Jannuska’s StreamingThe Halfway Tree  and  Midseason records. In addition to these collaborations, Sienna has been a guest vocalist on several occasions with L'Orchestre National de Jazz de Montreal and recently had the pleasure of singing on and penning lyrics for Christine Jensen’s Opus-winning album, “Under the Influence Suite” (ONJM). Finally, Sienna is the featured singer on the soundtrack for the 2007 Oscar-winning animated short, The Danish Poet by Torill Kove (music by Kevin Dean).

In addition to performing, Sienna has taught jazz voice and directed small ensembles at the post-secondary level for over 10 years. After obtaining her Masters of Music in Jazz Performance degree in 2008 at the University of Toronto, she began teaching there and at Humber College. In addition to this, she spent a year at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC working as the Head of the vocal department in the Jazz and Contemporary Music program. During that time she had the pleasure of teaching classes in Songwriting, Business of Music, Vocal Masterclass and Labs, Jazz Choir and Small Ensembles along with private voice instruction.

For the past three years, Sienna has taught at McGill and Concordia University in Montreal and for the past decade has given voice clinics and songwriting masterclasses around the world. Some of the highlights have included Moscow, RU at the Konsort Music Academy, the Kiev National University in Ukraine and the Performance House Jazz Camp in Silkeborg, Denmark to name only a few.

Finally, Sienna enjoys teaching in both English and French.

"Sienna Dahlen has made a beautifully compelling record that is soulful and unique."  Ron Sexsmith (acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter)

"Ambiances éthérées, profondément sensuelles, subtiles du début à la fin. Zones métisses d’un style composite, entre jazz, folk et country. Chansons originales exprimées en anglais mais aussi en français avec un accent charmant. Timbre singulier, grâce, volupté. Sens unique du phrasé, sens évident des nuances et des jeux d’intensité vocale, sens de l’impro.  En bref, un coup de coeur pour Sienna Dahlen."  Alain Brunet (La Presse, Montréal) 4/4 stars
