Postdoctoral Researcher (Group C Unionized)
Start date: September 1 (or as soon as possible)
Contract length: 12 months (possible extension to 24 months)
Hours: Full time; 40 hours/week
Salary: $50,000 (plus benefits)

A postdoctoral position is being offered at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University to conduct an Institutional Ethnography examining how the work and health of music students is hooked into, and governed by, social relations within and outside the university. This project is funded by a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant entitled "Health promotion in post-secondary music education: An institutional ethnography". The project is supported and sustained by a large team of researchers, including two experts in Institutional Ethnography. The study is being conducted at three sites internationally – two in Canada, and one in Australia.
The postdoctoral researcher will be jointly supervised by Dr. Liliana Araújo, Schulich School of Music, McGill University and the Principal Investigator, Dr. Christine Guptill, Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Ottawa. The post-doctoral researcher will have the opportunity to work closely with two doctoral students who are novice Institutional Ethnography researchers, one of whom has already begun to collect data. Primary ethics approval at the University of Ottawa has been granted and ethical approval will be required by the McGill REB. The successful candidate will have a PhD and experience in conducting Institutional Ethnography research. A background in health sciences and/or music would be beneficial. The candidate will be required to work in Montreal, QC, Canada.
The post-doctoral researcher will be supported in applying for additional research funds to support a possible extension of the contract to 24 months. The postdoctoral researcher will be first author on any publications arising from their work, in keeping with guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
Requirements:
- Experience in Institutional Ethnography, including data collection, analysis, and communication of findings
- Completed doctorate in a field relevant to the program of research
- Exceptional writing, organization, and communication skills
- Must have access to a reliable computer
- Preferred: Experience in health sciences and/or music; experience in mentoring/supervision of students
