A huge congratulations are in order for Cathy Martin, Coordinator and Liaison Librarian at the Marvin Duchow Music Library, on being awarded McGill’s 2020 Librarian Excellence Award! This annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to the Library, its users, and its mandate.

Nominated by her colleagues for her excellence as a librarian, mentor, and colleague, Cathy is known by many for her clear vision, openness to new ideas, and impressive service implementation. Her ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to create and maintain valuable resources, such as the documentation of Music Library staff policies, a service desk triage procedure, and an AV equipment online reservation request system, has been very helpful in the development of library services.

In her role as Editor-in-Chief of the CAML Review, the journal of the Canadian Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres, Cathy implemented a peer-review section to support Canadian music information professionals in achieving their scholarly communications goals.

A consummate professional, Cathy approaches every situation with a positive outlook and a genuine smile. Between October 2018 and May 2019, she took on the role of Interim Head Music Librarian head on and was instrumental in successfully navigating staff through the transition. She is known by many for her continuous desire to upgrade her own skills while empowering her colleagues in the same way. The quality of her work and integrity of her intent are first rate, always.

Congratulations, Cathy!
